Nel 1899 nasce la Casa di Riposo per Musicisti, in piazza Buonarroti a Milano, un istituto che fu pensato per cantanti e musicisti viventi in condizioni disagiate. La Casa di Riposo fu aperta soltanto dopo la morte di Verdi, nel 1902, ed ancora oggi ospita artisti anziani da tutto il mondo.
